Why this travels
Packaging is audited on its own standard
A packaging site is not audited against the food manufacturing standard. BRCGS publishes a separate standard for packaging materials, with its own hygiene categories and its own product safety requirements, and it is recognised by GFSI in the same way.
- Product safety and quality management requirements written for a converting operation rather than a food factory.
- Hygiene category requirements, which depend on the end use of the material rather than on where the site is.
- Contamination control for foreign body, chemical and migration risk specific to packaging.
- Customer specification and complaint handling, which is where most packaging non-conformances arise.
Straight answer
What a toolkit does, and what it does not do
You get the documented system already written and structured to the standard: the manual, procedures, forms, registers and risk assessments. That is normally the slowest part of getting certified and the part that is identical from one site to the next.
It does not implement itself. Someone at your site still has to make the documents true, with your process steps, your hazards, your suppliers and your monitoring records. Local food law, such as labelling and permits, stays local and is yours to add.
If you would rather not do that alone, we work with teams remotely as well as on site.
Common questions
Before you buy
We supply food contact packaging but do not make food. Is this the right standard?
Does it cover both hygiene categories?
Can this be used alongside a food manufacturing certificate?
What format is it in?
What language and file formats do I get?
Why is the price in South African rand?
Tell us what you convert and we will confirm the scope
Hygiene category and scope are set by what the material touches and how it is used. Getting that right before you buy is quicker than correcting it during an audit.
