ASC Food Safety Consultants Named an Exemplar Global Recognised Training Provider

ASC Food Safety Consultants, the South African food safety consultancy headquartered in Gqeberha, has been recognised by Exemplar Global as a Recognised Training Provider (RTP). Exemplar Global, the international certification body for auditors and training providers, issued the recognition on 29 October 2026 after reviewing ASC’s administrative processes and courses against the requirements of its RTP scheme. The recognition covers 22 ASC courses, among them the ISO 22000:2018 Lead Auditor course and the internal auditor, HACCP, GMP and ISO management system courses, and gives food businesses an internationally known reference point for the training behind their audit teams.

Why does Exemplar Global recognition matter to a food business?

A food business in South Africa can face a certification audit, a retailer audit, a franchise audit and a municipal inspection in the same year. Each of them ends up at the same question about people. Who trained them, and how do you know the training was any good? ISO 22000 and FSSC 22000 ask for documented evidence of competence under clause 7.2, and BRCGS and GLOBALG.A.P. ask for training records an auditor can follow.

South African recognition such as SAATCA registration and SETA accreditation answers that question well at home. Exemplar Global recognition adds a reference point that is known outside the country. For an exporter whose customer sits in Europe, the Gulf or North America, or a multinational whose group technical team approves training providers, that saves a long conversation about who ASC is.

What exactly did Exemplar Global recognise?

Exemplar Global reviewed ASC’s administrative processes and its courses against the requirements of the Recognised Training Provider scheme. Credly describes an RTP as a provider that has shown it can design and deliver training. The outcome is recorded on a digital badge issued through Credly.

Since October 2025, Exemplar Global only certifies RTP courses that relate to or support conformity assessment. The recognition therefore covers 22 ASC courses in auditing, HACCP, GMP and the four ISO management systems, and not the rest of the catalogue. Why did ASC seek Exemplar Global recognition?

Mthokozisi is a registered lead auditor with Exemplar Global and IRCA, an FSSC 22000, BRCGS and ISO 22000 lead auditor, an HPCSA-registered Environmental Health Practitioner and a Professional Food Scientist registered with SAAFoST. He leads the recognised courses with a team of ASC trainers and consultants who work in food factories, packhouses, retailers and kitchens every week.

What changes for ASC clients?

• Internal and supplier audit teams. ASC can train the auditors your management system depends on, on recognised courses, and then work alongside them as consultants when the certification audit comes round.
• HACCP teams and production staff. Competence records for the HACCP team and for GMP now point to courses an international body has reviewed. The site still has to evaluate competence under clause 7.2.
• Certification projects. When ASC implements FSSC 22000, BRCGS, ISO 22000 or GLOBALG.A.P. for a client, the HACCP, GMP, ISO and internal audit training inside that project can run on recognised courses.
• Groups, franchises and multi-site businesses. Teams enrol online, managers track progress and certificates on a dashboard, and ASC invoices the company.

The recognition applies to training. ASC’s consulting, auditing, labelling and regulatory services, its document toolkits and its software are separate services and are not part of the RTP scheme.

How can anyone check the recognition?

Open the ASC badge on Credly, the credential platform Exemplar Global uses to issue its digital badges. It names ASC Food Safety as the earner, Exemplar Global as the issuer and 29 October 2026 as the date. Exemplar Global also keeps a public register of organisations that claim a link with it falsely, so procurement and technical teams are right to check before they approve any training provider.

How does this sit with ASC’s other credentials?

It builds on them. ASC’s online training arm is a SAATCA registered online training provider (TC 065) and a FoodBev SETA accredited provider (587/00337/1900), and holds HPCSA CPD accreditation for its courses. ASC advises national brands including KFC and Spur, and its founder received the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2022.
