BRCGS START! exists because going from no formal system to a full audit in one move fails more often than it succeeds. The basic level establishes the foundations that the intermediate level and then the full standard build on, so nothing you document is wasted.

Straight answer

What a toolkit does, and what it does not do

You get the documented system already written and structured to the standard: the manual, procedures, forms, registers and risk assessments. That is normally the slowest part of getting certified and the part that is identical from one site to the next.

It does not implement itself. Someone at your site still has to make the documents true, with your process steps, your hazards, your suppliers and your monitoring records. Local food law, such as labelling and permits, stays local and is yours to add.

If you would rather not do that alone, we work with teams remotely as well as on site.

Common questions

Before you buy

Is START! the same as being BRCGS certified?

No, and it is not presented as such. START! is a stepped programme towards certification. If your customer has specifically asked for BRCGS certification, you need the full standard rather than this.

Should I buy basic or intermediate?

Basic suits a site starting from little or no formal documentation. Intermediate suits a site that already has some controls in place and is closer to a full audit. If you are unsure, ask us before buying.

Will the work carry over?

Yes. The structure is designed so that documents created at basic level are extended rather than discarded as you progress.

What language and file formats do I get?

English, as Microsoft Word documents and Excel workbooks. Nothing is a locked PDF, because a document you cannot edit is a document you cannot make true for your site.

Why is the price in South African rand?

We are a South African company and our prices are set in rand. The dollar figure shown is an indication, converted at the current rate, so you can judge the cost before checkout. The amount you pay is the rand amount.
