GLOBALG.A.P. Document Templates Toolkit for South African Farms & Producers
By Mthokozisi Nkosi, Food Safety Specialist & Lead Auditor, ASC Food Safety · 10 min read

South Africa is one of the world’s major fresh-produce exporters, and for most farms selling into Europe and the United Kingdom, GLOBALG.A.P. certification is not optional. Documenting a GLOBALG.A.P. system to the IFA Version 6 standard is detailed work. A GLOBALG.A.P. document templates toolkit gives you that system already written, so your farm can focus on the practices in the field rather than the paperwork.

What is GLOBALG.A.P.?
GLOBALG.A.P. is the world’s leading farm-assurance standard. Its Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA) standard covers good agricultural practice across four areas: food safety, workers’ health, safety and welfare, environmental care, and traceability. The current release, Version 6, restructured the standard and tightened several control points. Certification requires a documented management system, risk assessments, procedures and records that show your farm meets those control points.
The toolkit gives you that documented system, already written to IFA Version 6. It includes the management-system documents, the risk assessments, the standard operating procedures and the record templates a GLOBALG.A.P. auditor expects. You personalise it for your crops, sites and operations, and you have a working system ready to implement and certify.
Why your documented system is everything
A GLOBALG.A.P. inspection checks your farm against a long list of control points and compliance criteria, and much of the evidence is documentary: risk assessments, procedures, training records, spray and fertiliser records, and traceability data. A control point without evidence is a non-conformance, and major-must failures stop certification. The documentation is what turns your day-to-day good practice into a certifiable system.
On a farm, the practices are in the field, but certification lives in the records. A toolkit gets the records right.
Building that documentation from scratch pulls your team away from the actual farming. A toolkit removes that burden by giving you a complete, consistent set of documents already mapped to the IFA control points, so you spend your time on the practices and the evidence, not on writing procedures.
The base toolkit and its add-ons
Many buyers require GLOBALG.A.P. plus one or more add-on modules. ASC offers the base toolkit and each add-on so you can match exactly what your customer asks for:
What is inside the toolkit
- A GLOBALG.A.P. management system, quality policy and site-management documents
- Risk assessments for food safety, workers’ health, safety and welfare, and the environment
- Standard operating procedures for the IFA control points and compliance criteria
- Traceability, mass-balance and record-keeping templates
- Any add-on documents you select (SPRING, TESCO Nurture or LEAF Marque)
- Forms, registers and internal-inspection checklists
Building from scratch vs starting with a toolkit
| From a blank page | With the ASC toolkit | |
|---|---|---|
| Time to a documented system | Weeks of writing during a busy season | Ready to personalise in days |
| Control-point coverage | Easy to miss must-comply points | Every control point covered by design |
| Buyer add-ons | Extra scramble when a buyer requires them | Add exactly the module your buyer needs |
| Cost | High consulting fees to author everything | A fraction of the cost of bespoke authoring |
| Market access | Certification delayed, orders at risk | Certify sooner, protect your markets |
How the toolkit helps your farm
How to implement the toolkit, step by step
- Choose base or add-on versionDownload the base toolkit or the version with the add-ons your buyer requires.
- Personalise the risk assessmentsAdapt the food safety, worker and environmental risk assessments to your crops and sites.
- Adopt the proceduresPut the SOPs for the IFA control points into daily practice across the operation.
- Keep the recordsUse the forms and registers for spray, fertiliser, training, traceability and mass-balance evidence.
- Run an internal inspectionTest your farm with the included checklists and close gaps before the certification audit.
- Go to certificationFace your GLOBALG.A.P. inspection with a complete, evidence-backed system.
Common mistakes to avoid
Leaving spray, fertiliser and worker records incomplete; weak traceability and mass balance; risk assessments that are generic rather than farm-specific; and adding an add-on late when a buyer requires it. A toolkit fixes the structure, but the field records must be genuine and kept up to date.
Who needs GLOBALG.A.P. in South Africa?
GLOBALG.A.P. is the standard for South African fruit, vegetable, wine-grape and other fresh-produce growers who export or supply national retailers. European and UK buyers routinely require it, and specific customers add their own modules on top, which is where the SPRING, TESCO Nurture and LEAF Marque add-ons come in. If a packhouse, exporter or retailer has asked for GLOBALG.A.P. certification, this toolkit is the fastest way to build the system.
Why choose the ASC toolkit
ASC Food Safety works with South African producers and packhouses on farm assurance every day, so the templates reflect how GLOBALG.A.P. is actually inspected here, and pair naturally with the ethical-trade audits many of the same farms need. The documents are practical, current with IFA Version 6, and fully yours to keep and adapt. ASC consultants can add exactly the help you need, from a quick review to a full pre-audit.
