Why a consultancy built a software product

For years ASC's consultants walked into plants with the same finding: the food safety system was sound and the records were a mess. Checklists filled in from memory at the end of a shift. Supplier certificates expired in an inbox. A mock recall that took a day of paging through files. The standard was not the problem. Paper was. So ASC built the system its consultants wished every client had: the standard loaded before the first login, every check scheduled to a named person, every record time-stamped, and the missed ones escalating by themselves.

That is why ASCloud is sold with setup by a consultant rather than a video tutorial, and why the content inside it is maintained by the people who audit the standards. When FSSC 22000 Version 7 was published in May 2026, the mapping arrived in subscribers' update logs as proposed revisions, because the same team was already preparing clients for the transition.

The founder

Mthokozisi Nkosi founded ASC and leads its consulting, training and software work. He is an FSSC 22000 and BRCGS lead auditor, a SAATCA-registered R638:2018 lead implementer, a registered lead auditor with Exemplar Global and IRCA, an HPCSA-registered environmental health practitioner and a FoodBev SETA assessor. His qualifications include an MSc in International Public Health, an MSc in Data Science, an MBA, a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health and a BSc (Agriculture) in Food Science and Technology, and he is completing a PhD in Public Health. He advises Adcock Ingram, KFC Africa and Spur Corp nationally, and he won the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2022.

The team behind the system

ASC's team includes more than one FSSC 22000 and BRCGS lead auditor, SAATCA-registered R638 implementers, environmental health practitioners, trainers accredited with FoodBev SETA, and a software and web development team that builds ASCloud in South Africa. The consultants who configure your site are the consultants who audit and implement systems in plants every week, which is why a demo is run by a specialist and not a sales deck, and why the person on the screen-share on audit day knows your plant.

ASC's consulting, training and second-party auditing clients include KFC Africa, Spur Corp, Adcock Ingram, TotalEnergies, Clicks, Woolworths, Peppadew International and Cerebos, and ASC conducts GAP audits of growers for McCain and hygiene audits of food premises for municipalities.
