ASCloud is a paperless food safety management system built in South Africa by ASC Food Safety Consultants and available to food businesses across the Gulf Cooperation Council states. It holds Codex HACCP, FSSC 22000, BRCGS, ISO 22000 and GSO 21 hygiene requirement sets as live checklists and records, with missed-task alerts, named-user sign-offs and scheme updates included. The full document FSMS costs R3,800 per site per month, about SAR 874, excluding VAT, with online setup from R5,000 and the system live in five working days. As at October 2026.
Who regulates food safety in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf
| Saudi Arabia | Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) under the Food Law of 2014 (Royal Decree M/1) licenses factories and warehouses and expects procedures based on HACCP principles and GSO 21 hygienic regulations for food plants. Restaurants and catering are licensed and inspected by the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing. In August 2025 the two bodies launched an updated food violations table emphasising documentation, food tracking and delivery staff |
|---|---|
| Qatar | Ministry of Public Health, Food Safety Department, under Law No. 8 of 1990. Its Food Safety Practices Guide for Food Services (2021) is based on the HACCP approach and inspectors assess against it |
| Oman | Food Safety and Quality Centre under the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, created by Royal Decree 24/2019 under the Food Safety Law (Royal Decree 84/2008). Municipalities inspect premises |
| Bahrain | Ministry of Health, Public Health Directorate, Food Control Section. Its Food Safety Guidelines require hazards to be controlled by systems such as HACCP and records kept to support monitoring |
| Kuwait | Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN), established by Law No. 112 of 2013, sets food safety criteria and inspects food companies and outlets |
| Currencies | Saudi riyal (SAR), Qatari riyal (QAR), Omani rial (OMR), Bahraini dinar (BHD), Kuwaiti dinar (KWD) |

Why Gulf food businesses go paperless with ASCloud
Gulf food businesses run at scale: central kitchens feeding thousands of meals a day, factories supplying several countries, hotel groups with dozens of outlets. The paperwork scales with them, and paper fails at scale. A missed cold room check in one outlet is invisible until an inspector or an auditor finds it. On ASCloud every site records on a phone or tablet, the record carries the person and the time, a missed check escalates within the hour, and the group dashboard shows every site's position each morning.
The regulators across the Gulf are converging on the same expectation: a documented HACCP-based programme with complete, dated records. ASCloud loads that programme before first login and keeps the standards content current through ASC's own FSSC 22000 and BRCGS lead auditors, so a scheme change arrives as a proposed revision rather than a project.
Buyers, markets and the standards they ask for
- Hotel groups, airline caterers, hospitals and oil and gas operators across the Gulf widely expect HACCP certification from suppliers and contract caterers
- Manufacturers supplying multinational brands and the large regional retailers are asked for FSSC 22000, BRCGS or ISO 22000
- GSO technical regulations harmonise hygiene requirements across the GCC, so one requirement set with country variations serves a multi-country group
- Exporters to the EU and UK meet Regulation (EC) 852/2004 Article 5, and exporters to the USA meet FSMA preventive controls, with FSMA 204 traceability enforcement from 20 July 2028
Setup, support and invoicing
Setup for sites outside Africa runs online: an ASC specialist configures your documents, process flows and users over screen-share, loads your requirement set and trains your team in two live sessions. On-site days in the Gulf are quoted with travel before anything is booked. Support runs during South African office hours (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait are one hour ahead of South Africa, Oman and the UAE two hours ahead). Invoices are issued in South African rand, quarterly or annually in advance, by international transfer.

Questions from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf
Can a Saudi food factory use ASCloud?
Yes. ASCloud runs in a web browser and on phones and tablets, so a factory in Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam records against the HACCP and GSO 21 hygiene requirements the SFDA expects, in the same way a South African plant does. Setup runs online in Gulf working hours, prices are shown in riyals and invoices are issued in South African rand.
Does ASCloud handle SFDA or Balady licensing?
No. Licensing is a process with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority for factories and warehouses and with the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing for restaurants and catering. ASCloud holds the HACCP plan, GMP checks, cleaning, pest control, supplier and training records those licences and inspections rest on, so the evidence is ready when asked for.
Which standards do Gulf buyers ask for?
Hotel groups, airline caterers and institutional buyers across the Gulf widely expect HACCP certification from suppliers and contract caterers. Manufacturers supplying multinational brands and the large retailers are asked for FSSC 22000, BRCGS or ISO 22000. ASCloud carries all of these as requirement sets, with scheme updates included.
Can we run one system across several Gulf countries?
Yes. Multi-site groups see every site on one dashboard while each site works against its own country requirement set, in its own currency view, with the group's shared procedures controlled centrally.
Where is our data stored?
ASCloud records are hosted in South Africa. Operational food safety records carry little personal data beyond the name of the person who signed them. For staff records, your contract includes a data processing clause and the sub-processor list, and we complete your procurement security questionnaire before you sign.
